CARTEL BUG TOPS INITIAL DAY OF REMINGTON PARK TRAINING RACES

For Immediate Release - Wednesday, February 8, 2017

OKLAHOMA CITY – The opening afternoon of training races in preparation for the 2017 American Quarter Horse Season at Remington Park have been completed. After 17 events, all at 250 yards, Cartel Bug owned the fastest time of the session.

Owned by Bob Merrill and trained by Dustin Cox, the 2-year-old colt handled the fourth training race of the day in :13.206 seconds over the fast track. Cartel Bug, a Texas-bred colt by This Cartel Is Cold from the Mr Jess Perry mare Shays Luvbug, won by a half-length.

Cartel Bug was ridden to victory by G.R. Carter. The all-time leading jockey in AQHA racing history, Carter supposedly retired from competitive race-riding in 2015. However, he did ride in some big-money stakes events late in 2016, leaving a possible door open for similar activity this year.

The first day of training race activity was conducted under sunny skies with temperatures in the high 40s. All races were aided by northerly winds ranging between 19-22mph. Click here for results
