OKLAHOMA DERBY FIELD SET, JESS KOOL LADY POSTS TOP QUALIFYING TIME

OKLAHOMA CITY – MARCH 12, 2017 -  A big weekend of trials at Remington Park closed on Sunday with qualification heats for the Grade 3, $251,000 Oklahoma Derby. Jess Kool Lady put up the top time in the first of six trials to determine the March 25 final.

Owned by Enrique Ibarra of Country Club Hill, Ill. and trained by Victor Olivo, Jess Kool Lady was ridden by Paul Nieto. The 3-year-old filly covered 350 yards in :17.436 seconds over a fast track, rolling to a wide-open 1-1/4 length win over Tommy The Train. The win is her third in a row dating back to October 2016 and a pair of wins at Indiana Grand.

Jess Kool Lady is a daughter of Apollitical Jess from the First N Kool mare Rustys Kool Lady. She was bred in Oklahoma by Stuart and Strebig.

The field of 10 for the Grade 3 $251,000 Oklahoma Derby is set for the finals on Saturday, March 25 race: Jess Kool Lady, :17.436 (trial 1); Myst Fit, :17.529 (trial 2); BP Jess Fast, :17.540 (trial 3); Teardrops At The Bar, :17.594 (trial 2); Miss Racy Runaway, :17.594 (trial 4); Bellissima Chocolata, :17.602 (trial 4); Famousist, :17.630 (trial 5); Tommy The Train, :17.636 (trial 1); Cropped Top, :17.651 (trial 3) and Desert Trial, :17.723 (trial 3).

Trainer Trey Wood saddled four of the 3-year-olds that made the Oklahoma Derby in Myst Fit, Miss Racy Runaway, Bellissima Chocolata and Cropped Top.

Remington Park now moves into a normal weekly schedule of Thursday thru Sunday for the remainder of the 2017 American Quarter Horse Season. Racing starts at 6pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday with Sunday afternoon racing at 1:30pm. The season continues thru June 3.
