GREAT START HELPS JESS PAINT YOUR LIPS TO DECKETTA VICTORY AT REMINGTON PARK
OKLAHOMA CITY -- March 31, 2018 – The Grade 3, $50,000 Decketta Stakes was won Saturday at Remington Park by Jess Paint Your Lips. She took advantage of a quick start to win easily in the event for older fillies and mares.
Owned and bred in Oklahoma by Michael Pohl, of Montgomery, Texas, Jess Paint Your Lips is trained by Stacy Hill, of Lexington, Okla., and was ridden by Jorge Torres. The 5-year-old mare left the starting gate perfectly according to her jockey, then was a pro for the rest of the 350 yards.
“It was a really quick start. I was just praying that she was staying on her feet and she left good and didn’t fail me. It was all I needed,” Torres said. “I saw the 2 (One Sweet Racy) in the corner of my eye and I just asked her a little bit and she took off again.”
Jess Paint Your Lips won by three-quarters of a length, crossing the finish in a very rapid :17.014 over the fast track. One Sweet Racy held second, a half-length ahead of Mojo Perry who was along for third.
Away at 5-2 odds in the wagering, Jess Paint Your Lips paid $7 to win, $4.20 to place and $3.80 to show. One Sweet Racy returned $4.80 to place and $4.20 to show. Mojo Perry paid $7.80 to show. As And Js was the betting favorite at 9-5 odds, finishing fourth.
