OKLAHOMA CITY - February 5, 2019 -- The morning after horses were allowed to enter and be stabled in Remington Park barns, pre-season training started. Nearly 200 horses went to the track in cool and foggy conditions with Wave Topper posting the first official workout of the session.
Oklahoma City, OK -- February 4, 2019 – In what has become an annual occurrence at Remington Park, trainer Tammy Johnson again the first to arrive and bring horses into the stable area. Today is the first day for trainers to stall horses in anticipation of the upcoming 2019 American Quarter Horse, Paint and Appaloosa Season.
Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico -- January 31, 2018 - Jerry “Nic” Nicodemus, considered one of quarter horse racing’s greatest jockeys of all time, died Wednesday at his residence in Ruidoso. He was 73 years old.
“He was a great friend to so many people within the racing industry and we are all shocked and saddened by his passing,” Ruidoso Downs President and General Manager Jeff True said.“
His accomplishments on the race track are legendary, and the humble way he approached his success will always be remembered. Truly a Quarter Horse legend.
January 21, 2018 --The Oklahoma Quarter Horse Racing Association stallion service program is the primary fundraiser for the OQHRA. These stallion owners have generously donated the breeding to their stallions to support OQHRA. 100% of the proceeds from this auction goes to support several OQHRA programs including scholarships, lobbying activities and promotional efforts to increase racing opportunities for Quarter Horse and Mixed Breed racing in Oklahoma.
